There was an update sometime in June 2017 that made the pattern lock on the Note 4 to stop working. The phone wouldn’t take any input at all. The pattern had not changed. After a few attempts, the timer sets to 120 minutes.
You would have thought it was a simple case of factory resetting the phone. Its not that simple, Xiaomi lock the phone. I dropped them an email see if they could help me. This is the reply I got.

I got it from Gearbest and I didn’t fancy going through their process. I figure they would have said its not their problem.
So after a lot of Googling and reading the Xiaomi forums, I managed to reset it. It wasn’t too bad in the end. Just need to a couple of things and the right software.
1) USB debug mode needed to be on.
2) You needed to know the details of the Xiaomi account.
I used this video.
Use your own judgement about it. I installed it on mine if it makes you feel better. I scanned with windows defender and AVAST and nothing. Mirrored Here – USE AT OWN RISK. Virus Total says it contains a keylogger.
So after using the unlock tool, it did reset. However, I need to reset the Xiaomi account. Luckily, that was a case of just getting a SMS from Xiaomi to reset the account.
Hope this helps someone out. It took me a lot of Googling to find it out. Disappointed that Xiaomi make it so hard to reset the phone. Most companies just allow you to factory reset. I suppose its good for security if you have access to all your MI account but for your average person, its quite a hassle.
