New Gtag GT-XXXXXX

I was asked by a client about a tag on a website that started with GT. GTM is tag manager, UA-, is Universal Analytics, G- is Ga4 and AW- is Adwords tracking.

So what is this mysterious GT Google tag?

From the official Google documentation, it looks like a new tag they are going to be introducing.

From Bard.

A GT-Google tag is a single tag that you can add to your website to use a variety of Google products and services. It is a newer version of the global site tag (gtag.js) and it has a number of advantages, including:

  • It is more efficient and uses less bandwidth.
  • It is easier to implement and manage.
  • It supports more features, such as cross-domain tracking and enhanced measurement.

I have yet to see it in the wild myself but this is what I got asked about. If you know any different, let me know and I will update.
